We're doing some investigation work on and around Harewood Road between Monday 25 March and early May 2024.

We're carrying out this work at various locations along Harewood Road, between Bishopdale Park and St James Avenue. We expect this to take five weeks.

This work will confirm what is under the road to help plan the most efficient construction approach for several large infrastructure projects around Harewood Road, including:

As these projects are located in the same area, we're using this opportunity to combine our investigation work to minimise the impact on the community. Construction of these projects is not programmed to begin until later in 2024.

You can read more about these investigations below or in our Newsline(external link) story.

Our approach

We're taking a zone-based approach to these investigations. More information about the location, timing and traffic impacts of these zones can be found below.

Please see the start works notice for the wider Harewood Road area. (external link)

Why we need to investigate

It's common to conduct detailed investigations when preparing for the construction of large projects.

These investigations help us to:

  • Confirm the location and condition of key services (i.e. water pipes) beneath the roads.
  • Identify any potential clashes and risks to our construction approach.
  • Create a construction approach that makes efficient use of time, resources and budget.
  • Get a clearer picture of the expected costs of construction.

We do our best to take a 'one dig' approach and minimise our need to return and dig in the same road space again, which would cause further disruption.
