Main South Road - South Express cycleway

Construction of the South Express cycleway, a safe cycle route across the west of the city.

Our network of cycleways are making it safer and easier for people to cycle. More people cycling eases the pressure on our roads.

Along Main South Road from Craven Street, crossing over Curletts Road and down the alley into Ballantyne Avenue.

Work will start in mid-January 2021 and is expected to be completed by May 2021. Work will be undertaken between Monday and Saturday, 7am to 6pm.

The contractor is Downer. Phone 0274 596 676 or email between Monday and Friday, 8am to 5pm.

We are building a section of cycleway along Main South Road that will connect to sections of cycleway currently being built on Ballantyne Avenue and Suva Street.

A two-way cycleway will be built on the north side of Main South Road from Craven Street to Coleman Avenue. The two-way cycleway will cross Main South Road at the traffic signals and will continue on the south side of Main South Road across Curletts Road to 13 Main South Road. It then becomes a shared path that links to Ballantyne Avenue via the alleyway. A shared path will also continue toward Riccarton ending near the Toy Library at 393 Riccarton Road.
