Ensign Street and Lillian Street – pedestrian improvements

What

We’re making improvements on Ensign Street, and at the Ensign street, Lillian Street, Wales Street intersection for people walking and crossing at this location. We’re installing a new crossing point on Ensign Street outside the shops, and a new median island and build out on Lillian Street.

Why

To make it easier and safer for people to cross Ensign Street and Lillian Street. This is part of a larger package of works to make it safer for children to get to local schools.

Where

Ensign Street, south of Rosamund Place. At the intersection of Ensign Street, Lillian Street and Wales Street, Halswell.

When

Works will be undertaken between Monday 8th December 2025 to Friday 19th December 2025. Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

What you need to know:

  • There may be short delays during working hours, and your understanding is appreciated.
  • Temporary traffic management (road cones, signs) will be installed as part of the works.
  • A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our team and everyone safe.
  • We’ll need to remove on-street parking to allow space for the works, and to keep everyone safe.
  • We know this work can be disruptive, and we appreciate your co-operation and understanding.

Information for residents: 

  • Access to properties for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained around the worksite where possible.
  • We’ll help people get around the site. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we’ll do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications, and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads. We’ll provide updates if there are changes to the planned works.
