Whitewash Head – retaining wall repair investigations

What

We’re checking for essential services along sections of Whitewash Head Road, Scarborough, ahead of retaining wall repairs.

Why

Two retaining walls are in poor condition and need to be rebuilt. To prepare we need to close Whitewash Head Road from Scarborough Road between 9am–3pm weekdays for between two to five days. This closure will take place in the period above.

Where

Whitewash Head Road – from property numbers 4 to 6 and 18.

When

8 December 2025 to 12 December 2025. Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details 

We’re scanning the road surface to locate essential services such as power cables and water pipes. Where services are found, we’ll cut the road seal, confirm depth and position, then resurface.

 

The investigation works are expected to take two to five days to be completed.

Road closure:

  • Whitewash Head Road will be closed from Scarborough Road for investigation works between 9am–3pm weekdays.
  • Vehicle access will be limited during investigations.
  • The road will be open for 10 minutes every hour on the hour for traffic.
  • Emergency services access will be maintained; holes will be covered with plates if needed.
  • No road closure outside work hours.

 

During the works:

  • Expect noise, dust and vibration from the cutting, excavation and backfilling.
  • On-street parking will be restricted where cones are placed.
  • Contractor staff will assist pedestrians and help carry bags etc if needed.
  • Access to properties will remain available – however, between hourly openings, by foot only.
  • Tell us if you have any specific access needs (medical visits, home help, deliveries etc).
  • Put kerbside bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day; we’ll move them if required.
