Memorial Avenue and Greers Road intersection - signals upgrade

What

We’re replacing the current traffic signals, installing new ducting and making changes to the kerb and channel to support this new infrastructure.

Why

These traffic signals have reached the end of their useable life and are ready for an upgrade. The introduction of a new right-turn phase from Greers Road (south) aims to help ease congestion associated with essential wastewater upgrades in Ilam.

Where

The Greers Road and Memorial Avenue intersection, Burnside.

When

31 August 2025 to end of September 2025. Sunday to Friday, (weather/site condition dependent). Work will be carried out both at night and during the day during this period. Where required the team will undertake work on Saturdays during the day.

Details

From Sunday 31 August 2025, we’ll be upgrading the traffic signals at the Memorial Avenue and Greers Road intersection.

Temporary traffic management will be in place on Memorial Avenue and Greers Road while we complete this work.

Until late September, our contractors will work 24 hours a day at the intersection, where required. This will help us to reduce our overall disruption at the intersection.

 

During this time:

  • Memorial Avenue will be reduced by one lane in each direction at all times.
  • There will be intermittent closures of Greers Road at night time.
    • There will occasionally be no entry to Greers Road from Memorial Avenue from 7pm to 7am.
    • There will occasionally be no entry to Memorial Avenue from Greers Road from 7pm to 7am.
  • Detours will be in place, please follow signposted detours.
  •          A 30 km/h speed limit will be in place so we can keep our team and everyone safe.
  •          We’ll need to temporarily remove on-street parking to allow space for the works.
  •          Cyclists will need to merge with traffic through the site.
  •          At times, pedestrian detours will be in place. Please follow all signage and directions from staff on site.

Information for residents and businesses

  • Access to properties and businesses for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained around the work site where possible.
  • We will help people to get around the site. Please advise our team if you have specific requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help or any planned works.
  • There will be increased construction noise and vibration at times, and we will do our best to keep this to a minimum.
  • The work will have no impact on any services such as water, electricity, telecommunications and gas.
  • The timing of the work and certain activities will depend on the weather and the roads
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them if needed.
