20 Tanner Street - water treatment plant construction

What

We will be constructing a water treatment plant at an existing water supply pump station site in Tanner Street.

Why

Council has been directed by the Water Services Authority Taumata Arowai to install water treatment at the Tanner Street water supply pump station by 31 December 2025. The objective is to treat the water sourced from the two shallow wells on site with UV disinfection, and to manage and control residual chlorination.

23 June 2025 until late October 2025. Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

  • Christchurch City Council has contracted Hunter Civil to undertake construction of a water treatment plant at 20 Tanner Street.
  • The works are forecast to take 5 to 6 months to complete.
  • During the works, there will be increased noise and vibration from the use of machinery for activities such as soil excavation, installation of pipework and manholes, and compaction of imported material.
  • For a period of up to two weeks, the traffic on Tanner Street will be changed to a one-way system. Notification boards will be put up one week prior to this. This one-way system is expected to be put in place in late July.
  • On-street parking may be affected around the work site, cones will indicate where parking will not be available.
