As part of the Halswell Junction Road Extension project, we are also completing a section of the South Express Major Cycle Route. This work involves constructing a new shared cycle and pedestrian path, new kerb and channels, upgraded overhead lighting and new drainage. This will extend the existing cycle facility along the south side of Waterloo Road from the old Halswell Junction Road level crossing (now closed permanently) to Finsbury Street and will involve works on both sides of Waterloo Road. This section of South Express contributes to the construction of the 15km South Express cycleway from the CBD to Templeton.
When we were in touch about this portion of the works in March 2024, we informed you that we had a design clash on Waterloo Road and had to pause works whilst this was worked through. This service clash has been resolved, and we’ll be returning to complete the cycleway construction works associated with South Express.
During this time, traffic will be reduced to one lane westbound on Waterloo Road between the new level crossing at Halswell Junction Road and Fulham Street. This has some impacts on vehicle entry and exit to the side roads, please see the plan below.
Please note as the worksite progresses along Waterloo Road these side road impacts will change, and this will be communicated to you closer to the time. Please keep checking your letterbox for updates.
Please follow the detour signs. Our friendly on-site staff can also assist with any queries. The speed limit around our work site is 30kph to keep our workers safe. Road users are advised to expect short delays when travelling in this area and plan their journey accordingly. On-street parking close to our work site will be temporarily removed to allow for safe working space.
Access to properties and businesses will be maintained. However, we may need to work in front of driveways from time to time. We’ll try to give you plenty of notice of this. However, if you need to get into or out of your property or business and we’re in the way, please just talk to one of our friendly staff and we’ll make sure you can use your driveway.
We know this work is disruptive, so we appreciate your patience and understanding. Thanks for your co-operation.
