The Antigua Street footbridge is one of the busiest junctions in the city for people walking and biking.
We’re reducing the size of the large raised planter outside the Antigua Boatsheds and Café, so we can widen the shared pathway. This will give everyone more room to move, making it safer and easier to use this area.
The footbridge will remain open during this time, but the width of the pathway will be reduced while we work. We ask cyclists to kindly dismount and walk their bikes through the work site during this period as per the onsite signage.
Some on-street car parking will be temporarily unavailable during construction, but there will be no permanent parking loss.
Please keep an eye out for site signage and ask one of our crew for assistance if you need support moving through the area while we’re working.
If you have specific access requirements, such as medical appointments, essential deliveries, home support services, or scheduled work at your property, please let us know in advance so we can accommodate you. Please contact the Citycare Property number above.
We understand this work may cause some inconvenience, and we apologise in advance for any impact it may have. While there will be periods of noise and vibration, the on-site team will make every effort to minimise disruption and complete the work as quickly as possible. Please be assured that the safety of residents, business owners, and our crew remains our top priority.
The businesses in the area, including the Antigua Boatsheds and Café, will be open as usual during this work.
Please note: Christchurch City Council is also working nearby to complete the Antigua Street cycle connection. Find out more about our work at ccc.govt.nz/Antigua-street-footbridge.
Ngā mihi nui, thanks for your patience and understanding while we complete this work
