What |
We'll be installing traffic signals at the intersection of Main South Road, Yaldhurst Road and Riccarton Road and completing other related improvements over a four-week period of evenings. |
---|---|
Why |
To make it safer and easier to use the intersection. There have been a high number of crashes at this intersection, and the installation of traffic lights will provide a better way for people and vehicles to get around this busy area. |
Where |
The intersection of Main South Road, Yaldhurst Road and Riccarton Road (also known as Church Corner). |
When |
The majority of works will take place from late April 2025 to late May 2025. Sunday to Thursday, 7:30pm to 6am (weather/site condition dependent). |
Contact |
The contractor is HEB Construction. Phone Harrison Hunt on 027 262 9234, Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm or email harrison.hunt@heb.co.nz. For assistance outside these hours, please contact Zane Tomalin on 027 320 3285. |
Most of the work will take place during the evenings to minimise disruption and shorten the overall project duration. However, there will still be some traffic impacts and important information you should be aware of.
Evening road closures: For much of the project, Main South Road will be closed to eastbound traffic from State Highway 73 in the evenings. Westbound traffic on Riccarton Road will also be unable to access Yaldhurst Road. Detours will be clearly signposted. See Figure 1 below for more details.
Property access: You will still be able to access your property while work is being completed. If you have specific access needs - such as medical appointments, home support services, large deliveries, or planned work at your property please let us know in advance so we can accommodate them.
Daytime traffic impacts (6am - 7:30pm): Traffic impacts during the day will be minimal. A reduced speed limit will be in place, and traffic management equipment may be visible in preparation for evening works.
Noise and vibration: Some noise and vibration are expected during construction. We'll do our best to keep this to a minimum. The noisiest activities will be scheduled at the beginning of each shift to reduce overnight disruption.
Parking: At times during the work, on street parking will be unavailable.
Additional traffic management: Other traffic management setups will be required as the project progresses. We'll provide advance notice and further details ahead of time.
Full intersection closure: The intersection will need to be fully closed at a later stage to allow final surfacing to be completed. Again, we will notify you in advance with all relevant information.
Pedestrian access: Impacts on pedestrian access will be minimal. All changes and detours will be clearly communicated on site.
Bus stop changes: Some minor changes to bus stop locations will be required while work is underway. Please refer to Figure 2 below for temporary stop locations during the main works.
