Shirley Road, Hills Road and Warrington Street - intersection safety improvements - night works

What

We will be working at night to lay cables under the road to support the safety improvements at this intersection, which will include a new green arrow traffic signal.

Why

The new signal phasing will make it safer for southbound right-turning vehicles travelling on Hills Road into Warrington Street.

26 May 2024 to 31 May 2024. Sunday to Friday, 6pm to 6am (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

This notice covers the traffic impacts for the night work that we have planned as part of our safety improvements at the intersection of Shirley Road, Hills Road and Warrington Street.

This work will most likely be completed in one night (Sunday 26 May 2024), but we have allowed for up to a week in the case of bad weather causing delays.

Traffic impacts

  • A four-way stop/go system will be in place to allow traffic to travel in all direction s through the intersection. However, traffic will be reduced to single lane.  Please allow more time for your journey and expect delays.
  • Both slip lanes will be closed while we undertake night work.
  • We will need to close:

              - Aylesford Street at the intersection with Hills Road.

              - Woodville Street at the intersection with Warrington Street.

             - Slater Street at the intersection with Shirley Road.

              Please use the alternative exits for these streets.

  • On-street parking will be temporarily removed during the works.
  • Cyclists will be merges with traffic lanes.  Please drive and ride with care.
  • Speed will be reduced to 30km/h through the work area.
  • Pedestrian access to footpaths will be maintained with detours in place from time to time.  Please follow signage and instructions of our temporary traffic management teams.

Information for residents and businesses

  • Overnight there will be increased noise, dust and vibrations from the use of machinery for activities such as saw cutting, hydro excavation and plate compaction.
  • Property access will be maintained where possible.  We will work with businesses and residents during the work.
  • Please let us know if you have any specific property access needs e.g. medical visits, home help, large vehicle deliveries or planned works.
  • The work will not impact on any services, such as water, tele-communications and gas.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day.  Our team will move and return them if needed.
