Details
What are we doing?
- We are constructing a shared path cycleway through the rail corridor between Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road and between Barnes Road and Main North Road. (The section between these points, through Barnes Reserve, is already complete.)
- As part of the works to extend the cycleway, we are upgrading the kerb and channel, footpath, landscaping and line marking where the shared path intersects the railway level crossing on Tuckers Road.
- Previous crossing closures have been needed to construct the KiwiRail elements of work, in accordance with KiwiRail's resource programme. This stage will tie in all the footpath and civil works. Any further KiwiRail signalling works to commission the crossings is unlikely to require any further closures.
Traffic Impacts
Railway crossing closure
- The road will be closed on either side of Tuckers Road railway crossing, as per the dates above.
- Due to an unrelated project on Tuckers Road, mentioned below, Tuckers Road railway crossing will not be open to traffic 24 hours a day from 15 April to 2 May. Once that project has been completed, the crossing will be opened to traffic outside of our work hours (which are 7am to 5.30pm) from 3 May until 17 May.
- Detour routes will be in place, with signage to redirect traffic around the closure. Please allow extra travel time if you will be affected by the closure.
Pedestrian access
- Pedestrian and cyclist access across the railway crossing will be available, under escorted crossing by our workers. Outside of our work times, safe pedestrian access will be made available.
Other work on Tuckers Road
- From 15 April to 2 May, an unrelated project to upgrade a wastewater main will also be on Tuckers Road. You should have received a notice about this work, carried out by Tru-Line.

Noise
There may be increased noise, dust and vibrations during work but it shouldn’t impact on your power, water, gas or phone services.

Safety is our biggest priority so please keep children and pets away from worksites.
Bins
Please put your bins out as usual before 6am on your collection day. Our crew will move and return them if needed.
