From Bunz Stream to 564 Cashmere Road, Cashmere.

When

July 2022 to November 2022 (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Grounds and Services Ltd. Phone 03 349 0634, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Details

From July to November 2022, contractors will be working on a section of Cashmere Stream between Bunz Stream and 564 Cashmere Road. They will flatten the slope of the banks, create meanders and instream habitat, and also plant the banks and wider margins with native plant species.

This is stage 1b and 2 of a 4 stage project due to be completed in 2024. The overall goal of the project is to enhance Cashmere Stream downstream of Sutherlands road. The works will improve the health of the stream, enhancing and providing diverse new habitat for native plants and animals.

Alongside the stream enhancement work, a new 100-hectare flood storage and stormwater treatment area is being developed between Cashmere Road and Sutherlands Road. This will help reduce the risk of flooding in the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River catchment, and capture and reduce sediment running into the stream. Once complete, the area will also provide a network of walking and cycling paths and green spaces alongside the stream and around the wetlands.

The detailed design plans for stage 1b and stage 2, and further details about the project, are available at www.ccc.govt.nz/cashmerestream(external link).

Please note that the work area will be fenced off to keep everyone safe. Please follow all safety signage and instructions on site.

Thank you for your patience while we work to enhance Cashmere Stream.
