We’re upgrading traffic signals at several intersections along the Strowan Road and Wairakei Road route, from Glandovey Road, Heaton Street and Rossall Street in the south, through to the intersection of Wairakei Road and Grahams Road in the northwest.
Signals at these intersections are being upgraded:
- Idris Road (complete)
- Railway crossing (complete)
- Grahams Road
- Glandovey Road/Heaton Street/Rossall Street/Strowan Street (starting April 2026)
- Greers Road
Work to replace the signal infrastructure will be staged, beginning with Idris Road/Wairakei Road in February and then the railway crossing. It is being coordinated with the resurfacing of the road.

Traffic impacts
We know road works can be frustrating, so we’ll be working hard to get out of your way as soon as possible.
You should expect delays when travelling on Wairakei Road while traffic signals are being upgraded.
