Some Like it Polish

Enlightening feast of classical music and drama theatre beyond any borders, showcasing cultural unity between Poland and New Zealand.

Cultural variety concert celebrating two important milestones – 50 years of establishing Polish/New Zealand diplomatic relations and the 130th anniversary of women's suffrage.

Presenting music from both cultures and drama theatre beyond any culture – the aim is to entertain, showcasing cultural unity between Poland and New Zealand.

The event will have two parts: a classical music presentation performed by Christchurch's most sought-after members of CSO, followed by a unique stage performance of drama theatre: by a well-known and prominent community-based Polish theatre group from Sydney.

Concert: Part One

Variety of works by F. Chopin, H. Wieniawski, K. Szymanowski, D. Lilburn, with a grand finale of two prominent female composers: Polish G. Bacewicz and New Zealander D. Buchanan.

Performed by Helena Sowinski (piano) and Laura Barton (CSO, violin) – both of Polish descent, alongside some of Christchurch’s most sought-after musicians.

Concert: Part Two

‘Surreal Life of Dali’ – Polish Drama Theatre ‘Fantazja’ (Sydney).

Written by James Domeyko, inspired by “The Trial of Dali” by Andy Kolo – a wickedly wild surreal comedy-drama about the one and only Salvador Dali.

Adaptation/music: James Domeyko; Directing: Joanna Borkowska-Surucic and James Domeyko.
