Ride the Peace Train

Christchurch’s newest free attraction – the Peace Train - will be making its debut this spring and you are invited to celebrate with us.

The Peace Train was donated to the people of Ōtautahi Christchurch by Yusaf Islam (Cat Stevens) in recognition of the outpouring of compassion and humanity that followed the terror attacks on 15 March 2019.

This gift was conditional on the train being free to ride for the citizens of Ōtautahi Christchurch.

Join us to witness the Peace Train's inaugural journey to celebrate World Peace Day.

Rides on the train are limited but we will have lots of other displays and activities including:

  • Displays and information from The Disarmament and Security Centre, INcommon and Mahia te Aroha.
  • A reading circle with stories about peace from Christchurch City Council Libraries outreach team.
  • Try your hand at origami.
  • A wishing tree to leave your messages of peace and hope.
  • Roving kids performers.
