The Nurses' Memorial Chapel, built in 1927, sits adjacent to the botanical gardens in its own beautiful and tranquil setting surrounded by a stunning garden. Open days at the Chapel will provide an opportunity for the public to read about the history of this magnificent Arts and Crafts building, learning about its rocky history and the near tragedy on two occasions when the Chapel was close to being demolished, plus the story of what followed as a result of the earthquakes.

Featuring 12 beautiful stained glass windows, furniture carved by two local craftsmen and a boutique museum, the chapel is thought to be the only purpose-built chapel in the world that commemorates women who died in World War I and the 1918 Flu Pandemic.

The public can wander round the Chapel garden full of beautiful commemorative roses and a stunning Sam Mahon sculpture which reflects the caring and nurturing of the nursing profession.
