Come and hear a talk about the University of Canterbury, 'a very great influence on the community at large', in the year of its 150th anniversary.
Join us at the Canterbury Workers Educational Association for this special lecture by John Wilson, lead author of A New History: The University of Canterbury 1873–2023. John will look at the many points of contact between 'town and gown' through the 150 years of the University's life.
John Wilson MNZM graduated from the University of Canterbury with an MA (first class honours in history) in 1966, then gained a PhD from Harvard University. He has written extensively about Christchurch and Canterbury history both as a historian and as a journalist. He was awarded the Canterbury History Foundation Rhodes Medal in 2002 and the J.M. Sherrard Award in New Zealand Regional and Local History in 1994.
