Adaptive reuse of Heritage Buildings

Find out how the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings could be one answer to the future's challenges.

How can adaptive reuse of heritage buildings keep us connected to our roots, build our identity and represent a more sustainable alternative?

Heritage places are valuable assets that connect our communities to their history and the history of Aotearoa. Acknowledging the heritage values of our historic places can sharpen our vision for the future and guide our decisions in the present.

This panel will discuss the inherent potential of the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings to foster our identity, provide resilient buildings, and actively contribute to reducing the environmental impact of our construction industry.

The panel

Christine Whybrew – Director Southern/ Kaiwhakahaere Matua, Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga, will talk about how a connection to cultural heritage places is critical to supporting our individual and collective identities.

Nigel Gilkison – Architect and Urban Design Consultant, Universalform, will share his experience on how re-development projects can support heritage and urban regeneration to benefit our communities.

William Fulton – Principal Architect Christchurch, Team Architects, will share his experience about the technical challenges and social opportunities provided by the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings.
