Te Hāpua: Halswell Centre

Te Hāpua Halswell Centre has the following capacities:

Hours of hire

• Mohoao, Hao and Piharau: Monday to Sunday, 8am to midnight.

• Kōkopu, Kōaro, Aua or Īnaka: Monday to Sunday, 8am to 7pm.

Access

• This centre is fully accessible.
• There is a ramp at the after-hours entrance.
• There are 157 off-street car parks shared with the library and pool.
• On-street parking is also available.

Mohoao or Hao hire

• $18.00 per hour for not-for-profit community groups where the booking is for community benefit and does not charge attendees.
• $33.00 per hour for not-for-profit community groups where the booking is for a community group and charges fees or takes payment.
• $90.00 per hour for commercial, business, private or celebration hire. This includes auctions, meetings, birthdays, weddings, private events, funerals etc.

• $487.00 on Friday or Saturday evening for commercial, business, private or celebration hire from 6pm to midnight. Outside these times the hourly rate applies.

Piharau, Kōkopu, Kōaro, Aua or Īnaka meeting room hire

• $16.00 per hour for not-for-profit community groups where the booking is for community benefit and does not charge attendees.
• $25.00 per hour for not-for-profit community groups where the booking is for a community group and charges fees or takes payment.
• $40.00 per hour for commercial, business, private or celebration hire. This includes auctions, meetings, birthdays, weddings, private events, funerals etc.

Cleaning fees

• Hao Lounge: $125.00.
• Mohoao Auditorium: $170.00.
• Piharau Business Suite, if included as part of Hao Lounge and/or Mohoao Auditorium: $35.00.
• Additional cleaning charges may apply if required.

General fees

• A facility security fee up to $88 will be applied to bookings from casual hirers whenever:
  • Alcohol is present.
  • A booking ends after 9pm Monday to Thursday.
  • A booking ends after 6pm Friday, Saturday, Sunday or on a public holiday.
  • At the discretion of Council staff, and not limited to the events above.
• $60.00 replacement charge for lost or damaged keys/access cards.

A security guard will be present from the last hour of the hire to ensure the hirer adheres to the terms and conditions of hire and has made good the community space to the required standard.

General

Mohoao

• 250 chairs 
• 26 large round tables, seating capacity 8 (Height: 74cm Width: 152cm)
  
• 6 fliptop rectangle tables 
• Small stage
• AV equipment: video wall comprising 4 x 55" video screens suitable for connecting laptops and other devices. You must bring your own HDMI cable as we do not provide these. Please ensure you book an orientation before your booking to familiarise yourself with this technology, as there is limited support available during business hours only
• Audio input to PA system for music devices (3.5 mm stereo cable not provided)
• Lectern with a wireless microphone or lecture without microphone (both bookable)
• Mobile whiteboard available; please bring your own whiteboard markers

Hao

• Carpeted
• 150 chairs 
• 14 large round tables, seating capacity 8 (Height: 74cm, Width: 152cm)
• 4 fliptop rectangle tables
• AV equipment: 2 x AV screens suitable for connecting laptops and other devices.  You must bring your own HDMI cable as we do not provide these. Please ensure you book an orientation before your booking to familiarise yourself with this technology as there is limited support available during business hours only

Crockery and cutlery

• You will need to provide your own crockery and cutlery for the Mohoao, Hao and Piharau rooms
• You are required to supply your own tea towels, washing up clothes, rubbish bags and cleaning liquids

Health and safety

• As part of the rental agreement, you accept legal responsibility to meet evacuation plans, health and safety responsibilities and to act as the facility warden.
• All users are required to complete a pre-use form. These must then be signed, dated and left in the dropbox in the foyer of the centre.

Alcohol

• The consumption of alcohol is permitted in this facility.
• In general, bringing your own alcohol (BYO) is permitted at private functions such as weddings or birthdays.
• A special alcohol licence may be required if alcohol is part of your event, or if you are selling alcohol. Find out more about special alcohol licencing for events. Applications for special licences must be made with the alcohol licencing team at least 20 working days before the date of your event.
• Regardless of whether your event requires a special licence or not you still have the responsibility to ensure that you are providing a safe drinking environment at your event. Please read host responsibility guidelines and tips.

Noise

• This facility has noise control systems in place that may affect your event if noise exceeds the limitations. Please discuss this with us at the time of booking.
