South Express Cycleway project update.

Why

Our network of cycleways are making it safer and easier for people to cycle. More people cycling eases the pressure on our roads.

Where

Elizabeth Street, Wainui Street, Matipo Street, Division Street, Clarence Street, Picton Avenue, Blenheim Road.

When

Work is continuing through February and March 2021 (weather dependent).

March timeframes

All timeframes are approximate and dependent on weather and site conditions.

Zone A

  • Construction of the permanent cul-de-sac on the west side of the Wainui Street/Elizabeth Street intersection will be completed
  • Mid-March: the current traffic management layout (one way eastbound between Wainui Street and Matipo Street) will be maintained while we construct the new kerb and channel, footpaths and cycleway on the north side of Elizabeth Street
  • Late March: a road closure for approximately 2 weeks is needed to construct the raised platform crossing point on the north side of the Wainui Street/Elizabeth Street intersection. This will be communicated closer to the time

Zone B

  • Early March: from March 1 for approximately 2 weeks, a one way traffic management layout will be installed. Traffic will flow east to west between Division Street and Matipo Street to allow the buses to service Wharenui Pool
  • Late March: installation of storm water pipes will be approximately 75% complete

Zone C

  • Late March: new kerb and channel and footpaths will be completed on the south side of Elizabeth Street with the cycleway approximately 50% complete

Zone D

  • Early March: from March 1 for approximately 2 weeks, a one way traffic management layout will be installed. Traffic will flow west to east between Clarence Street and Picton Avenue
  • Late March: the installation of storm water pipes will be approximately 50% complete
