Links traffic counts dashboard

Volume counts are undertaken by type and by direction on a section of road at mid-blocks for entire days over a single week. If you are looking to download the individual count data, you need to note the count year and location number before downloading.

About the database

Data coverage

Christchurch City Council's intersection count programme includes a three-yearly monitoring regime over a number of selected intersections. It does not cover every intersection of the city and the list of selected intersections can change over time.

As a part of the current traffic survey methodology, traffic volumes are counted for five hours over a single day using camera recognition technology. The five hour survey period consists of 7am to 9am, 1pm to 2pm and 4pm to 6pm on a single ordinary weekday (not on school or public holidays). Therefore the traffic survey does not reflect any daily or seasonal variation of traffic trends.

While traffic surveys during periods of road work, temporary traffic management or extreme weather conditions are avoided, the surveyed traffic volumes might be under influence of upstream or downstream road works/conditions at the time of a survey.
