Cycling

Cycling friendly

Photo of two cyclists emerging from Bottle Lake Forest Park.

Christchurch has over 131km of on or off-road cycle lanes.

With off-road or on-road, tracks and trails or on city streets, Christchurch is the perfect place to go by bike. Cycling is good for you - it's a great way to build exercise into your day, it's good for the environment, it's fast, it's convenient and it gets you from door to door.

So if you're looking to cycle to work, school, parks, beaches, shopping centres, and scenic icons – discover your nearest cycle network. Chances are if it's under 5km you'll get there faster by cycle.

Off-road there's an adventure at every turn, from an undulating maze of fun tracks at Bottle Lake Forest Park to challenging single tracks on the Port Hills and everything in between.

We welcome feedback, suggestions, enquiries and ideas on how to improve the enjoyment of cycling in Christchurch.
