Cycling

Christchurch is the city of cycling, with, more people biking here than any other city in New Zealand. After the Christchurch earthquakes people still find cycling a convenient way to travel (some even more so!)

To burn off stress or have an enjoyable time out, find a ride and explore the city by track, trail or road. Status of rides post-earthquake are added to ride descriptions however do take extra care. Christchurch has over 330km of on road and off road cycle-ways. The cycle map provides a choice of key cycling routes, using either low traffic volume streets and off road paths, or the more direct routes using on road cycle lanes. Some of the cycling routes on the east-side of Christchurch have damaged sections. The 2012 cycle map identifies the damaged infrastructure. The enlarged Central City cycle map shows new contra flow sections to help cyclists get around.
