Strength from Struggle: remembering our courageous communities

Christchurch City Council, partners and community event providers bring you the annual Beca Heritage Week festival returning from 12 to 22 October. Check out the many interesting events in this year's programme.

Events take place in Christchurch and Banks Peninsula and we welcome the Selwyn District back into the programme.

The theme for Beca Heritage Week 2018, Strength from Struggle – remembering our courageous communities, reflects some significant anniversaries that were hard won or hard fought struggles in world and New Zealand history:

  • 125 years since women’s suffrage achieved in New Zealand
  • 100 years since the World War I armistice
  • 100 years since the 1918 influenza pandemic.

Join us in recognising these anniversaries and celebrating many other aspects of our heritage – there are more than 70 events to choose from.
