Hoani Street to Langdons Road - Sissons Drain renewal

What

We are replacing the timber lining of Sissons Drain between Hoani Street and Langdons Road and doing work to create new eel and fish habitats.

Why

The timber lining of the drain is old and damaged so needs to be replaced to ensure water can effectively flow through the drain. Fish and eels have been sighted in the drain and the ecological enhancements we are also doing will help support aquatic life.

Where

Hoani Street to Langdons Road including 50, 50A and 54 Hoani Street and 129 and 131 Langdons Road.

When

Work will start on 9 February 2021 and is expected to be completed by April / May 2021. Work will be undertaken between Monday and Friday, 7am to 6pm.

Contact

The contractor is Citycare Civil. Phone Aaron Martin on 027 215 8759 between Monday and Friday, 9am to 5pm.

What are we doing?

Work will take place in the drain corridor between private properties. We’ll be removing the existing timber lining, removing overgrown trees and vegetation, and installing new timber lining – which is along the same alignment as before.

New fish and eel habitats will also be installed to help support aquatic life in the drain. The habitats involve timber boxes and shading boards, and new planting will be put along the banks to create additional shading and enhance the drain corridor.

We’re also installing rock weirs at the upstream and downstream ends of the drain. This is to raise the water level slightly to help encourage fish and eels to live in the drain.

How will this impact you?

Safety is our number one priority and we need your help to keep everyone safe. Please keep clear of our worksite and stay alert if you’re in the area. Keep children and pets at a safe distance from the worksite and construction machinery.

Throughout the works you can expect minor disruption on Langdons Road and Hoani Street, including footpath closures and parking may be restricted in some areas. Please follow any signage as directed.

The work may result in increased dust, noise and vibrations. We’ll work hard to keep any disruption to a minimum, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

We thank you for your patience while we progress this important work, should you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
