Details

  • We are moving into Phase 3 of the project which involves installing a new 600mm water pipe, about 1-2.5m under the road. The pipe will be about 2.5km in length, following the alignment shown in orange on the map (reverse of page).
  • Due to the size and depth of the pipe being installed, road closures will need to be in place to allow works to be undertaken safely.
  • There will eventually be three sites working on installing the main pipe. The work sites will move along the streets under road closures as the pipe is installed. Before road closures for phase 3 begin in your street, an updated notice will be distributed with information on any specific disruptions in your area.
  • We will continue to keep you updated as this project progresses.

Project background

The existing water main pipe on Eastern Terrace, adjacent to the Heathcote River, needs to be replaced as it’s reached the end of its life. This pipe is critical for maintaining the supply of fresh drinking water for this part of the city.

Phase 1 and 2 of the project have been underway since November 2021 and are nearing completion. These two phases included investigation works and relocating existing pipes, cables and other obstacles that needed to be removed to complete the works. There is some remaining work as part of phase 2 currently underway on Eastern Terrace (marked on the map in red), and on Norwood Street between Tennyson Street and Fisher Avenue.
