Colombo Street - cycleway connection project

What

We are installing painted cycle lanes on Colombo Street, and resurfacing Colombo Street between Kilmore Street and Salisbury Street.

Why

Our network of cycleways is making it safer and easier for people to cycle. When more people are cycling it eases pressure on our roads.

Where

Colombo Street, from the Avon River to Bealey Avenue and Peterborough Street, from Durham Street North to Manchester Street, Central City.

When

March 2022 to July 2022. Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Contact

The contractor is Schick Civil Construction. Phone James Flower on 021 371 272, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Detail

The project involves the introduction of new cycle lanes by adjusting lane markings and some kerbs at Colombo Street, between the Avon River and Bealey Avenue. This project includes;

  • upgrading parts of existing drainage infrastructure
  • kerbs and channels
  • road signs
  • road markings
  • road reseal
  • planter beds
  • relocation of traffic signal poles
  • tree installation

Furthermore this section of Colombo Street will have the 30kmh speed limit extended from Kilmore Street to Bealey Avenue, and on Peterborough Street from Durham Street North to Manchester Street. Surrounding streets will retain their current speed limits.

Temporary traffic management will be installed to keep both road users and workers safe and hence property access may be impacted. We will contact property owners should any restrictions be put in place.
