Major Cycle Route (MCR) Northern Line Cycleway - construction

What

We are upgrading the railway level crossings, including installation of signal poles, at both Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road. This is part of the construction of the Northern Line Cycleway, which we are extending along the railway corridor through this area.

Why

The upgrades are being done to ensure safer approaches across the railway for pedestrians and vehicles travelling along Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road. The upgrade will also include the development of safe and easy access onto the new section of the Northern Line Cycleway, where it will intersect with the crossing.

Details

What are we doing?

  • We are constructing a shared path cycleway through the rail corridor between Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road and between Barnes Road and Main North Road. (The section between these points, through Barnes Reserve, is already complete.)
  • As part of the works to extend the cycleway, the railway level crossings at Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road need to be upgraded. This will include track formation, track works and footpath replacement.
  • After these works, another phase of works will require crossing closures at the end of March. A separate start work notice will be sent nearer the time.

Where are we working?

Traffic Impacts

Road Closures - while the roads are closed on either side of Sturrocks Road and Tuckers Road railway crossings, detour routes will be in place, with signage to redirect traffic around the closures.
