Manchester Street is being turned into a widened, tree-lined boulevard. It will provide bus priority to improve access into the bus interchange and will border the east frame residential development.

The Project

Manchester Street artists' impression

Manchester Street will be upgraded from Kilmore Street to Lichfield Street.

It will be widened by nine metres to allow for a bus lane going each way as well as general traffic lanes and a widened pavement to be shared by people walking and people on bikes. Two high-quality bus stops will be provided to complement the bus lanes.

Trees, landscaping and rain gardens will also be added to the street.

Work is currently underway between Armagh Street and Hereford Street.

Intersection work starts soon at the Hereford and Worcester Street intersections and will be completed in December 2017.

The existing lane closure between Armagh Street and Hereford Street will be extended north to Kilmore Street in November 2017, with the section between Hereford Street and Gloucester Street opening to two-way traffic by January 2018.
