Durham Street and Cambridge Terrace

Durham Street/Cambridge Terrace from Kilmore Street to Tuam Street is currently being upgraded.

The Project

Durham Street, the main southbound road corridor on the western side of the central city, is being enhanced with landscaping and improved traffic flow.

It will have two lanes of one-way traffic, on-street parking on the western side, and a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians on the eastern side next to the Avon River.

The block between Lichfield Street and Tuam Street will be changed from the existing two southbound lanes to two southbound lanes, a single northbound lane and an on-road southbound cycle lane. This will provide an easy way to access the new Lichfield Street car park and retail precinct, for travellers from the west.

Trees, landscaping and rain gardens will also improve the streetscape and suit the slower speed environment of the inner core.

Work is almost completed on the section of Durham Street/Cambridge Terrace between Kilmore and Lichfield Streets.

Street view of Durham / CambridgeWork will soon start on the new two-way section between Lichfield Street and Tuam Street.
