The well-used Risingholme Community Centre Craft Rooms in Opawa have re-opened. Permanent repair work will be carried out in 2016.
The craft rooms are part of the historic Risingholme Community Centre (external link) complex and are used extensively as a venue for adult and community education classes. Residents from across the city attend classes offered at the venue.
The Council re-opened the craft rooms in late July 2013 following its decision on 27 June 2013 to exempt six community facilities across Christchurch and Banks Peninsula from its policy of closing non-housing buildings with a seismic capacity of less than 34 per cent of the New Building Standard (NBS).
Engineers deemed them fit to occupy as they have little earthquake damage and are not at risk of brittle collapse in the event of future earthquakes.
