We need a prosperous, sustainable and innovative economy to ensure all residents can share in the benefits from Christchurch being a city of opportunity.

The Christchurch Economic Development Strategy brings together the views of business, government and other stakeholders. It outlines strategic priorities and the projects of over 20 agencies contributing to economic growth for the city.

This strategy is about making sure that Christchurch is a city of opportunity – a place where people and enterprise choose to be.

In preparing this strategy Christchurch businesses told us that:

  • To be globally competitive Christchurch will need to maintain a strong reputation to attract and retain workers, investment, business and visitors.
  • It is critical we complete key rebuild programmes and ‘build back better’.
  • We need to understand and prepare for rapid technological, workplace and demographic change over the next 15 years.
  • We need better international connections to support the flow of products, services, ideas, information, people and investment.
