Mosque attacks  |  17 Apr 2019

Heavy traffic is expected around the Addington area later today as thousands make their way to the You Are Us – Aroha Nui benefit concert at Christchurch Stadium.

The concert has been organised by the New Zealand music industry to raise money for those affected by the Christchurch mosque attacks.

The You Are Us - Aroha Nui concert is aimed at raising funds for those affected by the mosque attacks.

Comedian Mike King will host the concert, which will feature performances from Anika Moa, Bic Runga, Dave Dobbyn, The Exponents, Marlon Williams, Shapeshifter, Stan Walker, Six60 and many other talented Kiwi performers.

One of the highlights of tonight's You Are Us - Aroha Nui concert will be a special guest appearance by Lorde.

All the proceeds from this evening's event will go to the Our People Our City fund, which was set up after the mosque attacks by the Christchurch Foundation at Mayor Lianne Dalziel’s request.

With the Harlem Globetrotters performing at Horncastle Arena at the same time as the concert is on, Vbase is recommending concert goers allow plenty of time for travel and aim to arrive nice and early.

Traffic management will be in place around the stadium, including road closures and restrictions to help manage vehicles and pedestrians in a safe manner.

Jack Hinton Drive from Whiteleigh Avenue to the roundabout will be closed from 6am and Twigger Street will be closed from 3pm. Whiteleigh Avenue will be closed from 10pm to midnight.

Due to heavy pedestrian traffic in the Addington precinct, public parking will not be available for the concert. Limited pre-purchased parking will be available at the Addington Raceway Centre Track.

Mobility parking will be available to those displaying mobility parking permits. Access to this parking will be from Wrights Road only.

Red Bus is offering a Park and Ride service to and from Christchurch Stadium.  Buses will depart from the Bus Exchange and several of the city’s shopping malls from mid-afternoon. You can book spaces on the buses here.

If you plan on being dropped off at the concert, there will be a drop-off zone on Lincoln Road.

If you plan to go to the concert by Lime scooter or by Uber, both companies will be donating the profits generated from travel to and from the concert to the Our People Our City fund.

There will be parking for Lime scooters near the Jack Hinton roundabout.

Bike parking will also be available near the taxi loop by the Ticketek box office at Horncastle Arena.

The gates to Christchurch Stadium will be open from 5pm and the concert is expected to finish about 10.30pm.

Additional security measures have been put in place at Christchurch Stadium for the concert. Wanding and bag checks will take place and only bags less than 30cm x 30cm in size will be allowed through the gates.

There will be food trucks on site and soft drinks, low alcohol beer and wine will be available to buy.

*The You Are Us – Aroha Nui concert will be screened on television channel 3 tonight from 7pm.
