The Food Show, Victoria Square's artisan market and a muddy mess create a recipe for weekend fun.

The Food Show is on at Horncastle Arena from 10am to 5pm today, Saturday and Sunday and admission is $20 for adults and $14 for children, with under fives free.

Victoria Square Artisan Market

Victoria Square is hosting a one-off Artisan Market on Saturday between 10am and 1pm.  Ōtākaro has worked with Matapopore and Felt, an online marketplace for New Zealand craftspeople, to hand-pick a selection of about 30 local stallholders to take part in the market.  Among the Christchurch-made original items on offer will be jewellery, pounamu, soaps and balms, ceramics, and preserves.

In the event of bad weather, the market will be postponed until  21 April.

The Muddy Good Run

If you don’t mind getting muddy and sweaty, then you might want to head along to Canterbury Agricultural Park on Sunday for the Muddy Good Run. With two distances to choose from – five or 10 kilometres – you will need to traverse mud pits, manmade hills, slippery slides, climb under and over cars, scale containers and hay bales, crawl under camo nets to reach the finish line.

There is also a 1.5km course for children. The children’s races start at 9am, with the adult races expected to start about 11am. If you don’t want to compete on your own, get a team together and take part in the 5km team event.

The Great Country Egg-stravaganza

Head out to the Rhodes Park Domain in Tai Tapu between 11am and 3pm on Sunday for The Great Country Egg-stravaganza. Join in the world record egg and spoon race and egg hunt or simply sit back and enjoy the live music, food stalls and coffee carts.

There will be lots of family friendly activities and sports as well as face painting for the kids.
