A range of free family-friendly activities will be on offer in Christchurch’s newest park this Sunday.

Rauora Park opened just before Christmas and covers five blocks between Manchester Street and Madras Street and is bookended by the Innovation Precinct to the south and Margaret Mahy Family Playground to the north.

Ruaora Park spans five blocks.

Rauora Park is in the heart of the east frame and spans five blocks.

“Rauora Park is a significant new green space in the central city and we want people to get to know it and enjoy it,” says Ōtākaro Limited Chief Executive Albert Brantley.

“So, come grab a free sausage and a spot on the grass and watch the kids wear themselves out playing basketball with the Canterbury Rams, flying kites, taking part in a Les Mills class in the park or getting their faces painted.”

The Fire Service and Police will also be providing activities in the park throughout the event, which will run from 10am to 1pm.

“For those looking to take a more leisurely approach, there will be tours that explain the park’s design. People will be able to find out more about the East Frame housing developments, and see some of the interesting archaeological finds made during construction,” says Mr Brantley.
