Spencer Beach Holiday Park’s upgraded facilities and new family-friendly vibe are hitting the spot with holidaymakers.

The Christchurch City Council-owned campground has been busy with campers over the Christmas/New Year period, many of them Christchurch residents who like the convenience of a camping holiday close to home.

Just before Christmas a new bathroom block, kitchen and laundry were opened at the park. These buildings are about to receive the finishing touches, with an indoor BBQ area and landscaping around the buildings soon to be completed.

Campers have also been able to take advantage of the park’s revamped children’s playground which now features a giant 20-metre inflatable pillow that kids can jump around on and a huge inflatable slip-n slide.

The new facilities are part of an ongoing programme of upgrades at the holiday park that will continue this year when work will be done on the park’s two other amenity blocks and the accommodation buildings.

Council Recreation Services Manager David Bailey says the work being done is a combination of earthquake repairs and improvements needed to bring the park up to modern day standards.

“Some of the buildings and facilities at the park date back to the 1960s and we want to bring them up to a modern day standard so that we’re providing high quality amenities for campers and other holiday makers,’’ Mr Bailey says.

"We want the Spencer Beach Holiday Park to be a place where families enjoy coming to year after year and where they feel they are well catered for in terms of amenities and facilities.

“The feedback we’ve had from campers over the Christmas/New Year period is that they are really enjoying the improved facilities at the park and the family-friendly vibe we’ve created,’’ Mr Bailey says.

The Spencer Beach Holiday Park stretches over 17  hectares and has 85 tent sites and 250 powered sites, a 36 bunk lodge, as well as a range of cabins and flats.
