Keen gardeners are in for a horticultural treat when a feast of floral displays and information comes to the Botanic Gardens.

The Autumn Garden show, jointly presented by the Canterbury Horticultural Society and Christchurch City Council’s Botanic Gardens, is at the Visitor Centre Function Room and a nearby marquee on Saturday April 29 and Sunday April 30 from 10am until 5pm. Entry is free.

Celebrate the season at the Autumn Garden Show

Celebrate the season at the Autumn Garden Show.

There will be displays from Canterbury Horticultural Society’s Fruit and Vegetable Circle, Chrysanthemum Circle, Combined Garden Clubs and Floral Art Group.

The Chrysanthemum Circle will be holding their annual competition with gorgeous blooms in the Visitor Centre.

Other participants include Edible Canterbury/Otakaro Orchard, Friends of Botanic Gardens, Canterbury Area – Floral Art Society of New Zealand, New Zealand Alpine Society, the Canterbury Orchid Society and the Christchurch Bonsai Society.

Christchurch Botanic Gardens Operations Team Leader Bede Nottingham says the inaugural Autumn Garden Show held last year attracted thousands of visitors and he expects this year’s event, sponsored by Terra Viva Home and Garden, will be equally popular.

“It’s a great opportunity for people interested in gardening to find out more about local clubs they could join, and of course to find out more about plants ranging from alpines to chrysanthemums to bonsai. It also gives them a taste of a traditional flower show.''
