Councillor for Coastal Ward.
David is the City Councillor for the Coastal Ward having served in that role since 2013. Born and raised in Christchurch, he attended Shirley Boy’s High School and the University of Canterbury gaining a BSc in Geography and Geology. His career has encompassed sales and management roles in agriculture and engineering and in recent years he has been a Taxation Consultant registered with the Inland Revenue Department..
David has served twelve years on the Burwood – Pegasus Community Board (now Coastal Burwood) and was Chairman from 2007 to 2010.
In his role as a City Councillor, David chairs the Regulatory Performance Committee and in the current term will sit on the Health and Safety Committee (Deputy Chair), Audit and Risk Committee, Strategic Capability Committee and the Te Hononga Council – Papatipu Runanga Committee .
David is a member of the Institute of Directors and represents Council on the boards of Transwaste Canterbury Ltd, Burwood Resource Recovery Plant Ltd, Tirimoana Station, Canterbury Economic Development Ltd and the Canterbury Museum Trust Board. He is also a qualified Resource Consent Hearings Panel member and chairs or is a panel member for many Council hearings
Other interests in Council include: the development of aquatic facilities, Coastal Hazard mitigation and the Regeneration of New Brighton and the Coastal suburbs. He has a vision and passion to gain recognition of the huge potential that the Coastal Ward has to offer to the city economy as a visitor attraction.
Outside of council David’s interests include a significant role in Surf Life Saving both locally and nationally. He is interested and involved in many local community groups, notably the New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society, North Shore and North Beach Residents’ Associations and has former active roles and ongoing interest in rugby (Shirley Rugby Football Club).
