Candidates for the Harewood Ward and Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board (Harewood Ward)

Harewood Ward Councillor

Electing 1 Councillor

Faimeh BURKEFaimeh BURKE

My principal place of residence is not in the Harewood Ward area.
I believe in strong communities providing vital local input for Christchurch to function well and serve its people. I will work for a safer, sustainable, and community-focused Christchurch, with a grassroots up rather than top down approach. Having served as your Community Board member for twelve years, I have the local government experience and knowledge to be an effective Councillor. I have a track record of integrity, courage to right injustices. I will always put you and our city's future in the heart of decision making.
My priorities: safer streets for everybody especially school pupils, cyclists, the elderly and people with disabilities, rebuilding community facilities, revamping Bishopdale Mall, efficient and cost-effective public transport, enhancing green spaces, protecting water quality, reviving streams and waterways, affordable rates and protecting strategic assets. I believe strongly that Council's decisions should reflect community views and am always available to listen to your concerns.

My principal place of residence is not in the Harewood Ward area. I am also standing for Cashmere Ward of the Spreydon-Cashmere Community Board.
As an Independent candidate, I believe in transparent, common-sense decision-making without political party influence.
Priority should be given to back to basics policies ensuring ratepayers dollars are spent wisely. Escalation of rates increases concerns me greatly. Spending constraints are necessary. Having previously lived in Harewood I feel I have an understanding of the needs and aspirations of local residents. Being a new ward following the electoral review it is important that your councillor has a thorough knowledge of Council policies and procedures. My 6 years previous community board service gives me that valuable experience.
If elected I would be proud to serve you as a strong voice for the silent majority.
My background includes: Supervisor NZ Post Office; business owner; rugby referee (25 years); Vice-President Lancaster Park Cricket Club; 30 years real estate sales manager; Board Member Keep Christchurch Beautiful; Life-member Keep NZ Beautiful.

Best Value for Christchurch

My principal place of residence is not in the Harewood Ward area.
I am very focussed on supporting the regeneration of Christchurch now and into the future, always questioning - What is best value for Christchurch?
We need councillors who have knowledge and skills to lead through Christchurch's challenges. I can provide these. I am an engineer with more than 40 years' experience here and overseas in design and management of building and construction, financial control and community engagement.
Following the September 2011 earthquake I led the rebuild of land, pipes and roads for the city. I have been the Value Manager in SCIRT since it began in May 2011.
I bring understanding of how to get building and construction done, fiscal responsibility to identify the right projects, completing in the right priority, staying connected with community needs.
I'm running for Harewood to make a positive contribution to the ward and the business of Council.
Vote Rod Cameron - Best Value for Christchurch.

My principal place of residence is in the Harewood Ward area. I am also standing for Canterbury District Health Board.
I have lived in Harewood, Christchurch for 60 years attending Harewood Primary and Burnside High. I owned and operated a commercial tomato and raspberry property in Harewood for over 40 years.
I am 63 years old, have been married to Ann for 43 years and have 6 children.
I was awarded the MBE in 1986 for services to Horticulture and the community.
I am a company director and chairman of produce and farming companies in NZ, Australia, the USA and served on Lincoln University Council and St Andrews College Board for 10 years. I am an Accredited Fellow with the Institute of Directors. Christchurch City is in an exciting redevelopment phase and I bring to the council a perceptive, practical approach to the challenges the city faces.
My experience has taught me to be open to creative ideas, to plan for and create opportunities for the Harewood ward and city.

True Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Harewood Ward area. I am also standing for Harewood Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board and Canterbury District Health Board.
I am standing in the ward of Harewood to passionately represent the community where I live and get results for the ratepayers of my neighbourhood, giving you experienced representation and accountability on local issues. We desperately need a set of traffic lights at the intersection of Harewood/Gardiners/Breens to make this dangerous intersection safe for all our community.
We need to clean up our waterways. A number of creeks, rivers and springs flow through our ward and we house the city's #1 well head which is currently compromised and needs attention. We need to rein in council spending and keep rate rises locked to the rate of inflation.
I live in Harewood, I'm married with three children, I run a small business, I've been on Community Board for nine years and now I wish to be the first Councillor for Harewood. Please feel free to contact me anytime Aaron 021822766

Electing 2 Members

My principal place of residence is in the Harewood Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
Our local community should have more say in its future. There needs be confidence that the people elected to represent Christchurch have the best interest of Christchurch at heart and the communities they represent.
Balancing the needs of social equity and economic development is required so the future can be better for everyone. We can be inclusive of the new and remember our past collectively. I come from a hardworking family that instilled good values including integrity and honesty as guides for life.
I have been a small business owner locally for ten years in hospitality and currently the photographic industry and am active in charitable fundraising locally and overseas where I lived for nine years in England and Japan. I volunteer with Business Mentors New Zealand helping resolve issues facing small business owners.
I want to represent everyone within the Harewood Ward on the community board

Independent Citizens

My principal place of residence is in the Harewood Ward of the Fendalton-Waimairi-Harewood Community Board area.
Raised in Christchurch and having attended two primary schools in the Harewood area, my interests are in the future developments and upgrading the living standards of all the residents in our community.
Harewood has so much to offer and the fantastic people in this community deserve the best. This means having safer roads with more traffic lights, better facilities for people of all ages and a cleaner environment not only for our current residents but also for our future generation.
As a financial adviser, I am very people-focused and am passionate about listening and finding the right solutions for families and businesses in our community. I also strongly feel that our residents need to be well informed on the use of the council's budget to make sure the funds are allocated appropriately.
As your fellow resident in the Harewood area, I will make sure your voices are heard.

I am standing for the position of Harewood Community Board in the neighbourhood where I live. We have new boundaries this year and the community boards will have a new make up. I have been representing a large portion of our ward for the past nine years and I look forward to getting more results for our local community organisations, clubs and groups.
I live in this ward and know all our local issues well, I run my business here and my children go to school here. We have a fantastic community in Harewood and I look forward to making it even greater by working to get the best support from council into our local community facilities, parks and streets. Road safety, community safety and looking after the environment are all key parts of being a Community Board member for me.
