Councillor and Community Board candidates for Heathcote Ward.

Heathcote Ward - Councillor (1 required)

Darrell LATHAM

Darrell LATHAMIndependent

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward area. I am also standing for Heathcote Ward of the Linwood-Central- Heathcote Community Board.

As your Community Board representative I have a proven track record representing residents. I ask the hard questions, seek accountability and rock the council's boat on your behalf. This is a defining election. Ratepayers are losing faith with council and they want a change of culture and greater accountability. Rates are projected to rise by over fifty two percent by 2028. This is not sustainable. My focus includes rates that increases no more than inflation, water quality and supply, climate change policy that has at its heart the people, financial accountability to ratepayers, improved infrastructure and community based decision making processes. New business strategies and innovations must be implemented and we need to rethink the role of Council. The primary function of council must be to provide basic infrastructure. I am decisive, determined and dependable and I will represent all Heathcote residents with enthusiasm. Better councils do make better communities.

Sara TEMPLETONStrong Community: Healthy Environment

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward area.

As your councillor for the last three years I've been active, open and accessible in our many communities. Amongst other achievements, I championed the extended delegations to Community Boards, secured funding to complete the Coastal Pathway around Moncks Bay and chaired the Taylors Mistake Baches working group, enabling a resolution after thirty years.
We have made significant progress as a city in the last three years, opening many community facilities and addressing the worst flooding. However, like you, I know there is still much to do, especially with our drinking water and roading. I have consistently pushed to keep our water chlorine free, for safe and sustainable transport options, a healthy natural environment and greater Council transparency. Council also needs to engage residents meaningfully in the development of our Climate Change strategy, including the challenges and opportunities of mitigation and adaptation, enabling the transition to a thriving, sustainable city.

Tim LINDLEYFor Communities You'll Love to Live In

My principal place of residence is in the Heathcote Ward of the Linwood-Central- Heathcote Community Board area.

I have a doctorate in science and am a business development professional with a passion for the environment, healthy cities, and effective democracy. As board member of the Coastal Pathway Group and the Ihutai Estuary Trust I have worked within the community to help create recreational opportunities and protect our natural environment. I now have three years' experience as a community board member and in that time strongly supported the Heathcote River recovery plan, many community support and development initiatives, and recreational opportunities for all. If elected again I will continue work to ensure that the community board is effective at turning needs, hopes and ideas from our communities into actions that lead to results. I will seek to help Heathcote have a cleaner, healthier, urban environment, especially the waterways and estuary. I will support safe active urban transport, protecting our drinking water, and support appropriate business development opportunities.
