Your Fresh Voice for Riccarton

My principal place of residence is in the Riccarton Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
My family moved here from India before I was born and truly felt like Kiwis by becoming involved in our community. My foundation of community work and passion lies with the performing arts. I'm the out-going President of MUSOC (University of Canterbury Musical Theatre Society) and have seen our organisation grow into a community theatre extending beyond the campus population. I think the arts plays a critical role in helping to shape a communities culture. I'm 24 years old and have finished a Bachelor of Arts and now doing my Masters in Business Management. I'm also a co-founder of an ethical street-wear clothing label called Mallu.
I believe I can best represent all ages in the Riccarton Ward. I'm a fresh voice, have huge energy and drive that I will direct towards our community. I think I'll be a great conduit between students, young professionals and the wider community.

My principal place of residence is in the Riccarton Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
Your Strong, Experienced Advocate with real commitment to this community, where I have lived over 30 years, raising two children.
As Deputy Chair of your current Community Board and former City Councillor, I have the planning knowledge and experience to advocate effectively for our diverse community, facing increased pressures from the new City Plan.
I am committed to protecting our residential environment and giving residents a real voice on local decisions. In this term I have stopped apartment zoning in north Riccarton, promoted parking restrictions in residential streets, retained Council services for the new Riccarton Community Centre and developed the university to city cycleway.
I work to protect our heritage: former Trustee of Riccarton House and Canterbury Museum. I hold a MA (Hons) from Canterbury, former human resource manager, trained teacher and counsellor.
I will continue to stand up for you and deliver results.

Yes, just like you I want a positive future for our city. This is our community and we want a strong Community Board that is hardworking, transparent, and accountable. I am proud to have the opportunity to serve the Riccarton Ward.
I grew up in Riccarton and attended local schools. Previously, I worked in customer service and hospitality both here and overseas. I moved back to Christchurch 6 years ago to study and start a family. I have a Bachelor of Science degree from Lincoln University, where I am also on track to complete a Master of Science (Ecology) degree early next year. I also run a successful local window cleaning business.
My mission is to give the people of Riccarton a voice, working towards better traffic, parking, and urban development outcomes. I also want to support community lead initiatives.

Luke CHANDLERLuke CHANDLER

Best for Riccarton

My principal place of residence is in the Riccarton Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
At 24, Luke Chandler has already been involved in a myriad of community projects, many through Rebuild Christchurch. This has helped instill in him a passion for youth involvement in local politics. Luke previously stood in 2013 receiving over 4000 votes.
As an aspiring community leader, Luke is guided by a set of principles which have enabled him to understand and accurately represent the needs of the Riccarton community. Luke will campaign on this back-to-basics philosophy of simple but effective values: LISTEN: Listening to our community's wants and needs; DIRECT: Let's be straight up and have the decisions we make transparent; INVOLVEMENT: We need to involve the people that want to make our city a better place to live, work and play.
Luke is a resourceful and hardworking member of the community who offers a refreshing perspective, capable of rejuvenating the community voice and guiding the everchanging Riccarton Community.

It's time for a new face and a new perspective for Riccarton. I was born in Christchurch, raised in Riccarton and am currently a Business Banking Manager. Being brought up in Riccarton has helped me understand what needs to be implemented for our community. Being able to speak fluent Korean and English, and with a study background in Chinese and Japanese, I have a broad understanding of various cultures and believe I can unite our different ethnic groups. There have been many changes in Riccarton since the earthquake. The influx of population has caused traffic congestions and parking problems. The issue of increase in crime rates and the safety of our residents needs to be addressed. My focus is on investing in the right areas where it matters and ensure that every dollar makes a difference to our community. Your voices and opinions are what matters to me most.

The People’s Choice - Labour

My principal place of residence is in the Riccarton Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
As a Community Board member for Riccarton, I will work to ensure the board always takes into account the interests of local communities. I'll work with the community to resolve issues in our ward like traffic congestion on Riccarton Road and Deans Avenue, and problems with late night vandalism around the University and on Riccarton Road.
I have worked in the education field for 28 years, mainly concerned with administration and enrolments. I have learned skills of collaboration, listening and being open to many opinions.
I am standing with The People's Choice team of candidates because I support our policy platform of not selling strategic assets, provision of social housing that is affordable, warm and dry, and pushing for the living wage for all Council employees and staff of Council controlled organisations.
I support a vision of a Christchurch that is kind to its environment and supportive of its citizens.
