Candidates for Halswell Ward and the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board (Halswell Ward)

Halswell Ward Councillor

Electing 1 Councillor

Kevin CLARKEKevin CLARKE

Independent

My principal place of residence is in the Halswell Ward area.I am also standing for Halswell Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board.
Let's Get It Done My name is Kevin Clarke.
Halswell has been my home for 30 years since emigrating from Scotland. I'm a local business owner, married with four adult children, have held key positions on various local organisations, and senior management roles at international sports events. Rapid growth means Christchurch continues to face significant challenges. Let's ensure we meet them effectively so the whole community benefits. Let's ensure our facilities and infrastructure keep pace with the demands being placed upon them. Let's ensure that our long term planning is fiscally achievable. As your independent voice in Council, I will be an effective advocate for our community, with a resolute, common-sense, approach to get things done. It's time for a fresh perspective and action on the issues that matter to you, big and small, for today and for tomorrow. So vote for me, Kevin Clarke. Together we'll Get It Done.

Chrys HORNChrys HORN

Connected Communities, Thriving Christchurch

My principal place of residence is in the Halswell Ward area.
For the last six years I have worked in Halswell and across greater Christchurch to support good community outcomes on issues such as resource management, transport and earthquake recovery. Initiatives I have driven include the Halswell Community Project, the Halswell Newsletter, the Halswell Community Website and the Halswell Market. These required communication with residents, sourcing funding and networking with others with similar aspirations.
I have a PhD in social science, a biophysical science training, and a professional background in environmental management and community resilience.
The residents of Christchurch are key to the city's future. I am passionate about harnessing the talent and knowledge in our communities to create better economic, social and environmental outcomes.
Halswell is a fast-growing community, and its development and well-being have been central to my recent professional and volunteer experience. I am therefore an ideal advocate for Halswell at Council level.

After 48 years of living and raising a family in Christchurch and many years of community service including 15 years as the Police Commander responsible for the Halswell Ward, and 15 years on the Community Board, I believe I am well qualified to represent you on the CCC.
The Halswell Ward requires someone who understands both local and central government work. I believe in accountability in all areas of public service and will work hard to develop a sustainable community that creates a healthy environment that manages the issues related to the city rebuild, transport and urban development.
I will bring to the Council an open, independent and practical approach to decision making which includes talking with and listening to people in my community.
Together we can grow Halswell and our city, positively and effectively.

Our Community My Priority

My principal place of residence is in the Halswell Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
After being a quiet voice behind recent community initiatives I have been nominated to represent your interests in a more public way. A vote for me gives you a pro-active, independent Community Board member, speaking out for continued improvements within our community. I am familiar with issues affecting the Halswell, Aidanfield, Awatea, Kennedy's Bush, Westmorland, Wigram and rural areas, having lived here for 19 years. Married with adult children who have attended local schools, I am a member of the Halswell Residents Association and the Halswell River Rating District Liaison Committee. Having played, coached and refereed sport locally I recognise the importance of our residents belonging to a community that embraces and facilitates their involvement. I will press for fair and equitable rates and my knowledge of growth, planning and rating policies for urban and rural areas will provide for better representation across all generations. Our community is my priority.

The People’s Choice

My principal place of residence is in the Halswell Ward of the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board area.
I have lived in Halswell for 30 years and love it! My career began at IRD, and I now work in the financial industry. I obtained two diplomas while raising my son: accounting and human resources management. I enjoy employment law and when time permits I advocate successfully for those who have been wrongfully dismissed. Being a current elected member, I would like to continue to support the idea of a potential cafe at the Stone House at Halswell Quarry. It has been an idea of many and deserves to come to fruition.
I am involved with the Halswell Residents Association, Birthright Christchurch, and Kaitiaki group (guardianship/community welfare groups). I enjoy playing bridge, love aviation, and have learned to fly a Piper Cherokee, a fantastic experience.
If you want to be listened to and your voice heard it would be my privilege to continue to represent you.
