Consultation has now closed

Consultation on Northcote Road and Lydia Street improvements has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from 18 July to 8 August 2022.

During this time we heard from four recognised organisations, one business and 16 residents made submissions, including one that was late and was not included in the analysis.

You can read their feedback [PDF, 1.2 MB] and also find out how this influenced the Community Board decision.

Work on this project will start in early 2023.

The new Marian College is currently being constructed on the old Foodstuffs site on Main North Road.  Access to the school will be from Lydia Street, off Northcote Road.

New signalised crossing

As a condition of the Resource Consent, we are installing a new signalised pedestrian crossing on Northcote Road to ensure safe access to the school.

Lydia Street speed limit change

To support the safety changes, we are reducing the speed limit on Lydia Street from 50km/h to 30km/h between Northcote Road and the school.

Other safety measures

To improve safety we are also:

  • Reducing the speed on Lydia Street, between Northcote Road and the school, to 30km/h
  • Removing all on-street parking on the east side of Lydia Street
  • Installing a new shared path on the east side of Lydia Street
  • Removing the right turn out from Lydia Street to Northcote Road
  • Widening the footpath at the bus stop and new signalised crossing on Northcote Road
  • Installing a new seat at the bus stop on Northcote Road
  • Relocating the power poles outside 48 and 37 Northcote Road
