This Plan outlines our vision and priorities for the Waihoro/Spreydon-Cashmere community and will guide our decisions on local activities, projects and facilities over the next three years.

We are asking for your feedback on our priorities for the Waihoro/Spreydon-Cashmere community as part of our Community Board Plan.

Background 

A Community Board Plan is a three-year plan that sets out the Community Board’s vision and priorities for the local community. These Plans will guide the Board’s decisions on local activities, projects and facilities and our advocacy on behalf of our communities.

Each Community Board Plan will identify three priorities per ward area, and so the Waihoro/Spreydon-Cashmere Community Board Plan will have six priorities, which the Community Board will focus on during the term.

The Board is now developing its 2020 – 2022 Community Board Plan in conversations with our communities, with the aim to adopt the Plan by April 2020.

Our priorities 

We have identified several priority areas that we would like to focus on over the next three years. We want to know if you agree with our proposed priorities and any suggestions and feedback you may have.

Your feedback will be given to the Waihoro/Spreydon-Cashmere Community Board to help them make a final decision on the Plan.

Promote the urgent completion of planned traffic and safety measures at the intersection of Cashmere, Hoon Hay and Worsleys Road and at the Barrington Mall entrance/exit onto Barrington Street.

• Advocate to have work completed as a matter of urgency

Improve road safety and travel efficiency of Dyers Pass Road, Hackthorne Road and Cashmere Road environs, in particular at intersections. 

• Work with council staff to identify issues, including anti-social driver behaviour, and look at options for short, medium and long term solutions
• Advocate to include funding for solutions into the Long Term Plan

Upgrade the toilets, changing room facilities and sports storage at Hoon Hay Park.

The Board will work with council staff to investigate whether the existing facility is fit for purpose and the feasibility of upgrading/ or building a new facility.  The Board will advocate to secure funding, as a priority, in the Long Term Plan.

• Engage with the community to identify the requirements for improving the facility at Hoon Hay Park
• Advocate for inclusion of the upgrade/ or build into the Long Term Plan if required

Activation of Hoon Hay Community Centre (90 Hoon Hay Road) 

The Board will work with the community to support the activation and future use of the 90 Hoon Hay Road property as a Community Centre.

• Successfully engage with the community
• Support increased use of the facility
• Investigate the viability of continued use as a community facility into the future

Undertake planning for an adult playground in the Spreydon-Cashmere area 

The Board will engage with the community to identify the potential for an adult playground in the Spreydon-Cashmere Board area. If there is a need, the Board will seek to have a feasibility study and business case prepared that includes identification of potential sites and required amenities to meet the social and physical wellbeing needs of local adults. The Board will then work towards securing funding through the Long Term Plan.

• If viable secure funding in the Long Term Plan

Promote the progression of the integrated cycle network in Spreydon-Cashmere

• Seek investigation of an extension of the proposed Nor-West Arc Cycleway west to Westmoreland and advocate for the early completion
• Work with Council staff to investigate the inclusion of an Opawaho Heathcote River cycle route as part of the city’s cycle network
• Advocate for funding provision in the Long Term Plan to support these measures
