The Riccarton Community Centre is a well-used community facility in the heart of Riccarton. The Council has re-opened part of the building and this is currently in use.
The Service Centre is operational and some meeting space is available.
The Council has decided to rebuild the Community Centre and work is underway to progress this.
The Riccarton Community Centre in Clarence Street is part of the vibrant community life in Riccarton. Situated near the Westfield Mall and opposite the Windmill Centre, it is a significant facility to its local community.
The Council has approved building a new Community Centre due, in part, to the age of the current facility. The Council owns the land and building currently leased by Robbie's Bar and Grill as well as the old Community Centre. In December 2014, the Council decided to sell off a portion of the land to fund the building of the new Community Centre on the remaining portion of land. The demolition of Robbie's Bar and Bistro on Clarence Street is underway from March 2016.
In August 2015 the Council consulted with the community of Riccarton about what the new facility might look like and what it might be used for. Consultation took place from 12 August to 22 August 2015 via Inspiration Stations set up in the current Community Centre, Westfield Mall (PAK'nSAVE end) and in Riccarton Bush Farmers Market.
