  • A change to new property means new initial application fee rather than re-inspection.
  • The Council adopted a new Dog Control Policy [PDF, 377 KB]  on 23 June 2016 which makes some changes to the dog registration and associated fees structure. These changes come into effect in the 2017 / 2018 financial year.

Pro-rata registration fees

Use the fees below when registering a new dog. This could be:

  1. a puppy's first registration
    or
  2. when a person is a new owner of a dog

As a guide to what refund may be given in the case of a dog that has died, take the fee for the month after the refund application is received.

Notes:

  1. All fees inclusive of GST as of 1 July 2017
  2. A $32 penalty fee will be applied after 1 August 2017 to fees as they are at 31 July, i.e. Responsible Dog Owner status at $80. (Penalty fees for working dogs / rural dogs are less.)
  3. A classified "Dangerous" dog is $137 for registration on time and $169 if late.
  4. Classification as a "Menacing" dog does not affect the dog fees.
  5. Charge the fee as at the month the dog is to be registered from, e.g. if they are registered in October (or if they are registering later and you determine they were due to register in October), change the fee for October (don't charge from the next complete month).
  6. Responsible Dog Owner dogs should be registered by 30 June in order to qualify for lower fees.
  7. Pro-rata fees for Responsible Dog Owner dogs or working dogs are worked out depending on whether it is the first dog or an additional one.
  8. For new dogs that have come into Christchurch with an existing owner and are unregistered, charge the annual fee (without the penalty), e.g. $80, $91, etc; or from the date they became liable for registration of it (three months or from when they go the dog).

Notes:

  1. Fees payable for release of stock will include all costs incurred by the Council in the impoundment of the stock (including mileage and travel costs, hire of equipment, e.g. trailers if appropriate) and also the appropriate pound fees, as detailed above.
  2. Fees indicated above are a guide only and actual cost of release of stock will be advised when individual costs are tallied.
