Consultation has now closed

Consultation on the Springs Road/Garvins Road right turn ban has now closed. People were able to provide feedback from Thursday 14 June to Friday 6 July 2018. During this time we heard from 94 individuals and groups. You can view their feedback

After consultation closed we became aware that the Community Board had approved the right turn ban at this intersection in 2010.  Since then the signage was removed without our knowledge but has now been reinstated.

Based on feedback received and conversations with the Fire Service, who have relocated, we are also planning to extend the existing traffic island.

A report will be presented to the Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton Community Board in early 2019 requesting approval to extend the island. We will update submitters prior to this Board meeting with confirmed details.

Project information

We have received complaints from the public about vehicles turning right (towards Hornby Mall) into Garvins Road, from Springs Road blocking the through traffic travelling south towards Prebbleton. There is potential for this to create rear end crashes and delay emergency services vehicles. To improve safety and reduce the likelihood of accidents, we propose banning the right turn movement on Springs Road, at the intersection with Garvins Road. Alternative access to Garvins Road and other side streets will be maintained via Main South Road and Neill Street.
