The Council’s animal shelter provides proper and sufficient food, water and adequate shelter for found dogs and stock during their stay.

The dog shelter is not a place for dogs – they belong at home with their families.

To ensure your family dog is not impounded, it is essential your dog is:

  • currently registered and micro-chipped with the Council to assist the dog’s swift return home
  • securely contained on your property to prevent the dog from wandering the streets
  • kept under effective control at all times when being exercised
  • immediately reported to animal management if lost
