The mountain bike tracks wind through the 1000 hectare pine forest. The terrain is mostly flat but towards the coast planted sand hills provide some challenge.

The two easiest tracks are the Family Loop ride and the Coastal ride to Spencer Park.

Dogs are allowed in the forest. Take plastic bags so you can clean up after them.

Family Loop ride (approximately 7km)

Start: Bottle Lake Forest entrance car park, Waitikiri Drive, Parklands.

Finish: Same as the starting point.

Description: Follow the blue markers towards the coast and return.

Coastal ride to Spencer Park (10km round trip)

Start: There are two starting points:

  1. Spencer Park, Spencerville
  2. Bower Avenue, Parklands

Finish: Same as the starting point.

Hints and tips

  • The north-south forestry roads are named alphabetically towards the beach (Apple, Bravo, Charlie etc.)
  • The east-west avenues are numbered sequentially, starting from 10th by Spencer Park to 28th by Parklands
  • There is no drinking water in the forest. Take a water bottle, sun block and something to eat to keep your energy levels up
  • Call 111 immediately if you see smoke or fire
