Ōpāwaho/Heathcote River

There are a multitude of walks along the Heathcote River utilising footpaths, grass verges and walking tracks.

Snaking through Christchurch, the Ōpāwaho/Heathcote River passes through a number of suburbs such as Hoon Hay, Cashmere and Opawa before draining into the Avon/Heathcote estuary/ihutai in Ferrymead.

There are numerous walking tracks and attractive reserves alongside the river that provide great local recreation opportunities. Ngā Puna Wai also has a great walk that runs along the Heathcote River.

Visit the Ōpāwaho Heathcote River Network(external link) for more ecological information and ways to get involved with keeping Christchurch rivers clean.
