Walk through pleasant farmland dotted with pine trees and livestock before arriving at the Summit Road.
The first 700 metres of the track from Halswell Quarry is open. The rest of the track remains temporarily closed due to ongoing fire operations.

The track can be started at Halswell Quarry or at the end of Kennedys Bush Road. Mostly on a wide 4WD surface, the track is currently only open for the first 700m, all of which is a steady uphill climb.
Note: The track is mostly through private land. Stay on the track and be mindful that cattle can be grazing alongside it. Lambing is between August and September. The track is shared use so many mountain bikers also use it to access the Port Hills track system.
